| xxxxxThis prayer is one of the most widely known hymns in the church. It is attributed to Rabanus Maurus (776-856), a bishop who was known to have been an inspiring teacher and remarkable theologian. The Veni Creator Spiritus is most commonly sung, or chanted, and is usually heard at Vespers, on the occasion of Pentecost, during the Rites of Confirmation and Holy Orders, at the Dedication of a Church, before the election of a new Pope, and at any other time when the Holy Spirit is solemnly and seriously invoked. This is a very beautiful and powerful prayer. It may be prayed by individuals or in groups. A partial indulgence is granted at any time to the faithful who recite it. A plenary indulgence is granted if it is recited on January 1st (Feast of Mary, the Mother of God), or on the Feast of Pentacost. |
