xxxxxThis prayer is the oldest known prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was originally discovered in Egypt on a papyrus scroll, dating to the latter part of the 3rd century A.D. The prayer is commonly known by catholics as as "The Ancient Prayer to the Blessed Virgin", but in Latin was originally known as "Sub Tuum Praesidium" (Under Your Protection).

We fly to your protection,
Oh holy Mother of God!

Despise not our petitions in our
necessities, but from all dangers deliver us
always, O glorious and blessed Virgin.

Sancta Dei genetrix.
