Roman Catholic Liturgical Calendar for 2008

The feasts and solemnities listed in this calendar are taken from the Liturgical Calendar of the Bishop's Committee on the Liturgy, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, which is based on the official Roman Calendar. A detailed, day-by-day calenadar for 2008 is available for download here.

Holy Days of Obligation for 2008:
All Roman Catholics of the United States are obliged to participate at Mass on the following days, with
exceptions noted below:

- All Sundays
- January 1 (Octave of Christmas, Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God)
- Ascension of the Lord, May 1 (see exception * below)
- August 15 (Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary)
- November 1 (All Saints Day / Not a holy day of obligation in 2008, due to it falling on a Saturday)
- December 8 (Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary)
- December 25 (Nativity of the Lord / Christmas )

All ecclesiastical U.S. provinces, except Boston, Hartford, New York, Newark, Philadelphia, and the State of Nebraska, have transferred the celebration of the Ascension to the 7th Sunday of Easter, or May 4, 2008. If transferred, Thursday, May 1, is observed either as an Easter Weekday or the optional memorial of St. Joseph the Worker.
